The charming village of Limone was once the border between Austria and Italy and its historical lemon gardens thrive in the glorious climate.
A quaint and colourful little village, Limone hugs the north-western shore of the lake, with narrow cobbled shopping streets leading on to an idyllic waterfront and two tiny picturesque harbours.
Oleanders and Bougainvillaeas provide a blaze of colour throughout the summer. Limone has much to offer in the evenings, with a choice of delightful lakeside cafés and tavernas, some with live music. There are regular brass band concerts and even occasional spectacular firework displays.
There are some challenging walks in the picturesque mountains that rise just behind Limone village and there are many tranquil rambles in the less demanding foothills. A programme of free walks is organised from June through to September by the local Limone Trust.
The pleasant stroll along Limone's lakeside promenade takes you past many tempting cafés. Take the ferry or hydrofoil to the neighbouring resorts of Gardone, Riva and Malcesine for a wider choice of walking and rambling routes.
Behind the village of Limone you can enjoy the real flavour of rural Italy, with lemon and olive groves and luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation.
