Situated within the boundaries of the Hohe Tauern National Park and set at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, Kaprun offers everything for the holidaymaker, including an attractive centre with lawns and fountains, a fine range of shops and cafés, plus outstanding leisure and sports facilities.

A crystal-clear river runs through the village centre, and the 12th century Kapruner Burg fortress offers a variety of cultural events throughout the summer.

There are beautiful walks all around Kaprun with some of the most spectacular scenery you will find anywhere in Europe. This area offers a great variety of terrain with over 400 kms of marked trails, from the snow-capped peaks of the Kitzsteinhorn to the lovely lake walks at neighbouring Zell am See and the trail through the gorge at Sigmund-Thun.

A definite must for all hikers is the superb ridge walk from the Maiskogel to the foot of the glacier, offering fantastic views of the Pinzgau.
