Tour de France goes for a double-helping of Alpe d’Huez

Even if you’re not into cycling, the chances are that you know the Tour de France is going on right now.

You may even know that this year the the 100th edition, or that Team Sky’s Chris Froome is currently on course to be only the second Brit ever to win (after Sir Bradley last year).

But as the Tour heads to the Alps, it’s pretty hard for any of us mere mortals to contemplate exactly what it would be like to cycle up the 21 hairpins bends to Alpe d’Huez not once, but twice in one day!

But on Thursday of this week (18 July), that’s exactly what they will do.

So the next time you are in a transfer bus on your way up to Alpe d’Huez for your skiing holiday, or even up at Col de Sarenne at 1999m, then think what it must be like cycling up there!
