New Lift at Grands Montets Chamonix Progressing Well

Chamonix is well known as an off-piste destination and Grands Montets is the ski area that most people head to.

Unlike some French resorts, Chamonix is not know for the great lifts, but that is changing by the year.

New 10 man gondola

This summer work has been going on to install a new 10-man gondola at the Grands Montets.

Work is progressing to schedule and will see a major change.  The old Plan Joran chair lift and Plan Roujon chairlift have been removed.

The gondola will depart from the base station at Argentière and arrive at 2100m – approximately 200m above the mid-station of Lognan.

Carrying 3200 skiers per hour the resort are promising ‘no more queues on powder days!’

The mid station at Lognan and the main cable cars have also undergone a complete facelift. The total cost of the work is estimated at €10.6 million.

The Grands Montets will open from the first weekend of December subject to snow conditions.
