Snow covers ski resorts on both sides of the Atlantic

You might have read about the great snowfall in Europe this weekend (and if you didn’t, you should be checking our Facebook page!).

Fresh snow in Europe

Resorts received between 30cm and 50cm of fresh snow and leaves the slopes in much better shape than last week and looking set for the season at last.

This was Tignes on Saturday morning:

Sometimes you can get too much snow…

Unfortunately there was so much snow in some places that some motorists ended up stuck on the motorways and roads, as cars (without snowchains!) slipped and slid and blocked the roads.

Nightmare journeys, including 11 hours from Val d’Isere to Bourg st Maurice and 8 hours from Meribel to Moutiers were recorded.

Some holidaymakers never reached resort on Saturday and had to stay in local or temporary accommodation.  The Daily Telegraph reported that 15,000 cars were trapped overnight.

Over 1.5 metres in Vail

In the meantime, over in the States, Vail ski resort has recorded more than 1.5 metres of fresh snow in the last two weeks.
