Late season skiing in France: Events in April 2016

The French Alps have seen some great snowfall this week and conditions are close to perfect as we move towards the end of the season.

Great late season ski deals

Most ski resorts in France are open until the end of April – with some like Val d’Isere, Tignes and Val Thorens open even later.

There are some great advantages of ‘spring skiing’.  Perhaps the biggest bonus is that there are some great late deals available.

However, that’s not all.  Often the slopes are emptier, sunnier and warmer – making it a great time to travel with young children.

Events in April 2016

The days are also longer as winter fades into the distance. With that comes some extra events to liven up those last weeks of the season. Here are some of the best you can look forward to in April 2016.

Les Arcs: Spring Final (02-23 April)

This popular ski resort has a wide choice of activities on offer throughout April. Special options put on by the resort include slacklining, ride’n golf, the waterslide beach party, freestyle shows and concerts on the slopes.

La Plagne: Subli’cimes (03-16 April)

This is the second year of ‘Subli’cimes’ when six La Plagne locations, all over 2000m, are completely transformed completely.  Expect a mix of sandy beaches, chill-out zones, a mini Lapland, the adrenaline zone, an art-inspired area and, of course, a Kids’ Zone. You can read more about ‘Subli’cimes’ here.

Avoriaz: Music Finals (08-10 April)

Throughout the season, Avoriaz has been allowing groups and DJs to enter online and then complete against each other every Friday.  These live events have taken place on two stages in the Igloo Village in front of huge crowds. Expect a mix of electro, rap, pop and rock: it’s all covered, with the line-up for the final will be revealed shortly beforehand.

Tignes: Les Francofolies (11 to 14 April)

Les Francofolies is a famous music festival that has been held in La Rochelle for several years.  This will be the first winter version, and it’s a great coup for Tignes to host it. The line-up includes The Avener, Deluxe, Caravan Palace and more.  Find out more here.

Val Thorens: Apotheoses Days (30 April – 02 May)

This is a massive event for the resort as it moves towards the end of the season. Holidaymakers, locals and season workers in Val Thorens get to enjoy three days of skiing, partying, shows and activities, including the waterslide and the hilarious ‘bungee ejection’.
