See Courchevel by Hot Air Balloon or Plane

One of the best ways to see Courchevel is to take a hot air balloon flight over the resort. This is a wonderful way to cap a chalet holiday in this world-class ski resort.

Courchevel Altiport

Head to the resort’s altiport – one of the most famous landing strips in the Alps. With only a very short runway of 537m and a gradient of 18.6%, traffic is limited to small fixed-wing planes and also helicopters.

It’s only since 1992 when Albertville hosted the Winter Olympics that it has been made of tarmac – previously being simply a strip of grass.

Flights over Courchevel

You can of course take a plane and fly above all of Les 3 Vallees. That flight takes about 20 minutes or you can take a simple 10 minute flight over the valley of Courchevel itself.

According to one user on YouTube, it’s the most dangerous landing spot in the world:

Hot Air Balloon flights in Courchevel

A more peaceful and leisurely way to view the resort is to take a hot air balloon flight. Taking off from the altiport, flights take 1-2 hours.

It’s not really possible to ‘fly’ a hot air balloon – you really are at the mercy of the prevailing wind – so a ground crew will follow you by car to your landing point.

Wonderful Views by Hot Air Balloon

Each balloon can take up to 5 people and the cost is €1700 per flight. For larger groups you can have up to seven balloons in the air at once.

Bear in mind that flights can only be taken in the mornings (9am to midday) and are subject to weather conditions.

It can also be very cold up there, so make sure you wrap up warm, but it’s worth it for the incredible views on offer.
