New Chairlift in Méribel Replaces Bubble Lift

Despite the curtailed season last winter Méribel is continuing its plans to improve their lift system, starting with a new six-man chairlift.

Plattières gondola replaced by chairlift

The new lift will replace the old ‘Plattières 3’ bubble lift – one of the few old-style smaller gondolas left in France.

The lift will start from near the Plan des Mains & Chatelet chairlifts at 2400m going up to the Roc des Marches at 2700m. From here you can ski down to Les Menuires and get the most of the Les 3 Vallées ski area.

Old bubbles sold out in minutes

The 45 old ‘eggs’ were auctioned off a month ago after 36 years in service. Despite the fact that buyers had to collect the 320kg bubbles direct from Méribel-Mottaret and the €500 price tag, they sold out in minutes.

The €22,500 raised from the sale were shared between three charities: Ma Chance Moi Aussi, Petit Princes and Mountain Wilderness.

New lift from Orelle to Val Thorens

This work is in addition to the new Orelle lift that we updated you on recently.

This lift will improve the connection from the ‘Fourth Valley’ of Les 3 Vallées and ultimately will link directly to the Cime de Caron. It’s hoped this lift will be open for next winter season from December 2020.

Winter starts on 21 November

The summer season in Les 3 Vallées starts on 04 July and the winter season on 21 November in Val Thorens.
