Buy a Méribel ‘bubble lift’, but be quick!

After 30 years of service, the Olympe bubble lift that links Brides-les-Bains with Méribel via Les Allues and Raffort is being upgraded.

The Olympe gondola was opened thirty years ago to link Brides Les Bains – the main athletes’ village for the Albertville Winter Olympics in 1992 – to Méribel.

Yours for €500…

The lift will be modernized before the start of the 2021/22 season, and the old bubbles will not go to the ‘bubble graveyard’, but will be put on sale.

If you have €500 spare, then all you need to do is contact Méribel-Alpina by email (contact@meribel-alpina.com) from Tuesday 20 July onwards.

Excess baggage a possibility

If you are lucky enough to be in the area right now, you can inspect the individual bubbles before you buy.

They are currently located in, and will have to be collected from, the Martagon car park, near to the Raffort intermediate station.

Potential buyers should be aware that each Poma SP77 ‘egg’ weighs 334kg, and measures 2m long, 1.68m wide and 2.11m high.

Suitable for families of up to 6 people

With dimensions like these, they’re not going to fit into your hand luggage. They will fit most families though, seating six in back-to-back seats of three.

Should be lucky enough to snap up one of these bargains, Méribel-Alpina will provide lifting equipment. However, it’s up to each buyer to provide a suitable means of transport, as well as securing your new purchase onto it.

Preserving biodiversity

The proceeds from the sale of the old gondolas will go towards preserving biodiversity in the Méribel ski area, with a focus on revegetation of the slopes.
