GB Snowsports look forward to medals at Beijing 2022

With less than 6 months to go until the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, GB Snowsport have announced the athletes who will be taking part in World Cup events leading up to the Games.

Including Europa Cup squads there are 69 athletes in total, including six new selections.

Medal Prospects

Hopes are high for medals in Beijing after some superb results for Team GB last winter. Highlights included:

1st – Charlotte Bankes, Snowboard Cross World Championships
2nd – Izzy Atkin, Slopestyle, X Games
2nd – Zoe Atkin, Half Pipe, Aspen World Cup
2nd – Kirsty Muir, Slopestyle, Aspen World Cup
3rd – Zoe Atkin, Half Pipe World Championships
4th – Oliver Davies, Skier Cross World Championships

Pat Sharples, GB Snowsport Head Coach, said: 

Never before has Britain had such a competitive field of athletes to select from.”

“Despite the challenges faced last season, they showed they are capable of putting down world-leading results in some of the toughest competitions.”

“Those results, and the squads we’re delighted to announce today, bode well for what promises to be a landmark year for GB snowsport.”

“It’s a privilege to represent your country”

Gus Kenworthy has previously won Olympic bronze at Ski Slopestyle when representing the USA at Sochi 2014.

Kenworthy was born in the UK to a British mother and American father. In 2019, he joined the GB team:

“It is always a privilege to be selected to represent your country.”

“With the Beijing Games coming up, we’re all super-focused on having the best seasons we can, and the support around the freestyle squads means we’ve got a great chance to improve on what we achieved last season.”

Charlotte Bankes, Britain’s first Snowboarding World Champion, said: 

I can’t wait to get back out into competition as part of a group of incredible athletes representing Great Britain.

Last year was a real high point for me with great results, but neither I nor any of the team plan to take our foot off the gas.”

We wish all our Team GB athletes the best for this winter and will be watching avidly when the Games start in China on Friday 04 February.
