What’s New in Méribel for 2021/22

Méribel remains one of the most popular ski resorts for British skiers and snowboarders. The resort opens for this winter season on 04 December 2021.

The opening weekend will be celebrated with their ‘Méribel In Lights’ festival – a great way to start the season at the heart of the world’s largest ski area – Les 3 Vallées.

In this post, we look at what’s new for Méribel this winter.

The Maya Altitude restaurant

This new restaurant will open in December 2021 at the top of the Tougnète gondola, on the ridge between Méribel and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville.

It will have a capacity of 400 with Himalayan-inspired decoration and will offer an incredible 360° panorama of Mont Blanc and the Belleville valley.

New Taller Gondolas

Anyone who has stayed in Brides-Les-Bains or Méribel Les Allues will have used the Olympe gondola to travel up to La Chaudanne area where the main lifts start.

Holidaymakers this winter will note that the old cabins have been replaced by new, taller ones which hold six people and have been decorated with new murals inspired by local traditions.

A fast high speed chair at Plattières

Although this lift was installed and ready to carry skiers in December 2020, it will only be this winter that the new 6-seat high-speed Bouquetin chairlift makes its debut.

The lift that replaces the old Plattières 3 gondola, which squeezed skiers and snowboarders into old-style ‘eggs’.

It’s open to non-skiers as well, taking you to the slopes of Saint-Martin and Les Menuires in just 2½ minutes.

The World Cup Finals come to Méribel

With less than 500 days to go until the World Alpine Ski Championships come to Les 3 Vallées, Méribel hosts the men’s and women’s technical events at the World Cup Finals in March.

From 18-20 March, you’ll be able to see the best skiers in the world competing in Slalom and Giant Slalom, fighting for the fastest times to finish at La Chaudanne.

To improve skier flow during race week, a new 8.5m wide, 5m high and 50m long tunnel has replaced the old Roc de Fer tunnel, which runs below the race piste.

Take a Micro Adventure in Méribel

This experience gives you the chance to enjoy two days of freeride in beautiful off-piste areas such as Le Vol du fruit, Vallée de Avals, Lac du Loup or the Vallée des Encombres, spending the night in a refuge.

Flying Lessons at the altiport

Looking for a different type of experience? If you feel like taking flying lessons, even as a beginner, did you know Méribel has a flying club with instructors who can teach you how to fly.

Alternatively, why not simply take a tourist flight and see Les 3 Vallées from a completely different viewpoint?
