Ellmau is without a doubt one of the prettiest villages in our programme nestling between the Kitzbuheler Alps and the majestic Wilden Kaiser mountains.  The relaxed village centre has a range of shops and cosy bars and cafes.  In the local area, the Astberg skiing has some good runs and gives great views of the Kitbuhel Valley.  This resort is an excellent choice, with the added attraction of traditional Tyrolean hospitality.

Ellmau offers the advantage of an extensive lift system linking 250km of runs across the Ski Welt circuit, one of Austria’s largest ski areas. The skiing is varied and appeals to all abilities but particularly intermediates who will love the wealth of blue and red runs. The ski schools have a good reputation and the gentle runs close to the village centres are ideal for learning on the first few days.

Ellmau is an ideal family resort with nursery slopes in the centre of the village, a range of gentle slopes, a short airport transfer time and excellent child-care facilities.  There is still some good apres ski action, though, with a range of lively, fairly exclusive bars and a good variety of restaurants.

At Ellmau, a new 10-seat gondola with a mid-station replaced the Hartkaiser funicular, more than doubling capacity. The top station has a classy new restaurant complex and childcare facilities. Above Brixen, the Jochbahn quad was removed and replaced by an eight-seater which the resort claims is the world s fastest chairlift . It is double the length of the previous chair and starts far lower down the mountain. Above Hopfgarten, the old double Schernthann chair was replaced by a six-pack that serves a new run as well as existing pistes; its height automatically adjusts to help small children board easily.

The Aualm quad chair up to Zinsberg was replaced by an eight-seater. The Bergkaiser mountain restaurant was refurbished and now has seating for 950. Snowmaking was increased throughout the SkiWelt area.
