Meribel

In the middle of the Trois Vallees, Meribel is the ideal place for exploring the largest ski area in the world.  With over 600km of pistes there is plenty of skiing for all abilities and the super efficient lift system keeps everyone moving.  Whilst the skiing over the Trois Vallees area caters to all, the slopes closest to Meribel are best suited to beginners and intermediates.  The mountainside back down to the resort is covered in blues and reds.  Experts will not be disappointed, however, as the area provides plenty of off-piste challenges, glacier skiing and steep descent through the trees.

As a resort Meribel retains its traditional charm, with attractive wooden chalet-style buildings Meribel beats the neighbouring resorts hands down in the looks department.  There are over 90 shops, dozens of restaurants and a bi-weekly street market.  The nightlife has a good atmosphere and there is a wide range of bars to suit all tastes.  Daytime activities are aplenty.  At The Olympic Centre which hosts top-level ice hockey matches there is a pool, ice rink, climbing wall, bowling alley and 2 cinemas.  Or if you’d rather be out in the fresh air there are plenty of marked walking trails in the forest.

If you’d like to immerse yourself in French culture a little more then head up to Meribel Motteret or down the hill from Meribel Centre to the tiny village of Nantgerel and further on to Meribel Village, the "original" village. All are linked into the lift system of the Trois Vallees. Motteret, although less attractive, is well positioned for exploring the Three Valleys and reasonably snowsure.
