This Austrian resort attracts a loyal group of visitors that return year after year to enjoy winter sports in a secluded setting. The fact that snow is virtually guaranteed throughout the season makes it a great place to stay for people that fancy a late break before the arrival of summer puts a stop to all the fun. The slopes begin at the village, as do the lifts, so it's often possible to walk out your front door and start skiing straight away! 

A glacial reception

Fortunately, the hoteliers and restaurateurs that operate establishments in the Otz Valley offer their guests a much warmer welcome than can be expected from the local geographical features. There are many reviews of the area online and some great deals available on skiing breaks, which means that for an affordable ski holiday Obergurgl is a good choice. Whilst the climate may be cold, the glacial terrain at Hochgurgl, which can be reached via an express gondola that stretches a little over three and a half kilometres, offers a nice selection of wide blue descents to enjoy.

Alternative activities

Visitors have the chance to enjoy a number of other activities whilst holidaying in the village. Ice-skating, curling and snowshoeing are three of the more popular choices that continue the winter sports theme, whilst hiking and bowling provide holidaymakers with the chance to slow down and relax. For those that cannot get enough of the slopes there is an eight kilometre floodlit run that reaches the centre of the village and finishes close to the apartments, cabins and other accommodation in Obergurgl.
