Les Deux Alpes

The biggest asset of the resort is its altitude.  Set high up in the Dauphiné region of the Southern Alps, Les Deux Alpes offers skiing throughout most of the year on well over 200km of slopes.  The slopes themselves are curiously back-to-front: most of the glacial slopes are gentle enough for beginners, whilst the majority of the steepest expert slopes are found further down the mountain and deliver you straight back into the heart of the resort.  There is something for everyone, however, and Les Deux Alpes is always popular with snowboarders, especially in October when the resort hosts the World Snowboard Meeting.  The terrain park has a 120m half-pipe and is one of the most sophisticated in Europe.

The ski pass covers all of this and includes the opportunity to spend a day in Serre Chevalier and Alpe d’Huez.  It also entitles you to discounts on lots of non-ski related activities, including free access to a heated outdoor swimming pool and the open-air iceskating rink.  For those wanting some off-piste down-time there is the Aquaflores Wellbeing Centre with a variety of relaxing treatments available.

Be warned: the nightlife is not for the faint-hearted.  Most of the establishments are pretty fast-paced and cater towards the more dedicated night-owls.  However, there are a few havens for the more sophisticated patron with the chance to have a quiet drink and blend in with the locals.  The best way to truly escape though is to head up to the Pied Moutet area where there is the unique chance to spend a much more peaceful night in an igloo!
