Val D'Isere

Considered by many to be the world's premier ski resort, Val d'Isere is hard to fault, combining some of the best skiing anywhere with exciting and lively apres ski. The heart of Val d'Isere dates back to the 13th century providing a beautifully traditional village feel.  The skiing is divided into 3 main areas - the two main mountains of Bellevarde and Solaise, and Col D'Iseran.  The combined lift systems of Val d'Isere and Tignes (the famous Espace Killy) have around 97 ski-lifts whisking you in all directions, including the Le Fornet glacier, guaranteeing snow. The excellent lift system also provides access to some of the most exciting off-piste in the Alps, such as Le Tour du Charvet, Le Grand Vallon and the Col du Pers.

All levels of skier will have something to do, although strong intermediates are especially well catered for.  Snowboarders have two snowparks to chose from, one of which features the only double bowl in France.  And if that doesn’t get your adrenalin pumping then why not try the ice-driving circuit?  Take you own car or borrow one of their Fiat Panda 4x4s and let rip on the track.  There are some more tame off-piste activities too.  Val d’Isere has an ice-skating rink, swimming pool and a health and relaxation centre.

The biggest event on the horizon is the FIS World Alpine Skiing Championships running from 30th January to 14th February 2009.  Val d’Isere will host all 11 events, bringing together 60 nations, 350 athletes, 800 crew members and 1500 media representatives.

All ski statistics are based on L'Espace Killy area (Tignes and Val d'Isere)
