A quiet village with uncrowded slopes best for intermediate skiers and families. Although the nightlife is generally on the quiet side there are some great bars if you look in the right places.

Set high in the valley of the Upper Tarantaise and on the route of the Petit St Bernard Pass (closed in winter) is La Rosiere 1850. The international ski area is linked with La Thuile in Italy and skiers will enjoy fantastic views of the three major surrounding mountains, Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa. The resort is mainly south facing but due to its height and its location where snow clouds are drawn to the Petit St Bernard Pass, La Rosiere 1850 has an excellent snow record. The village is very traditional and very French and has all the ingredients for an great family skiing holiday.
La Rosiere has wide, open ski runs, which are suitable to all standards of skier. Complete beginners can find their feet on the green runs by the Clarines and Lievre Blanc lifts. They can then perfect their technique on the wide open blue pistes just above La Rosière. Intermediates can ski up to the Petit Saint Bernard Pass and the area around La Belvedere where there are some great blue and red runs. Take the Nuova and San Bernado runs, a total of 11kms, down to the village of La Thuile before returning via the Col de la Traversette chairlift, back to France. The 13 black runs and some fine off-piste skiing will keep any experienced skier happy. La Rosière’s Italian neighbour Thuile has some amazing boarding terrain. Freeriders will find some great spots to make their mark on the mountain and freestylers can try out the snowboard park.
Off piste the new sports centre provides a lot of the entertainment with a sports complex, ice-skating rink and bowling alley amongst other attractions. There is also plenty of après ski going on in the village which is on the quieter side but livens up considerably if you know where to look.
